Meetings THIS Week
HR Teachers- Taking AttendanceJust a quick reminder as to how daily attendance is to be taken:
SEL Book of the MonthIt’s September…that means a new SEL Book of the Month! September’s book is Crown: An Ode to the Fresh Cut. It will prompt thinking around individuality and positive self-concept and is also an opportunity to explore the places that matter to us in our communities. Attached are guiding questions and lesson ideas that support both SEL and academics. This fabulous resource was created by a team of APS teachers and instructional coaches. You can also find them in our SEL google drive here. If you’re on Twitter make sure to tag @SEL_APS and @ClaraTGreen and use the hashtag: #SELreads! Lastly, if you would like a member of the administrative team to read to your class this month, please let me know!
Assessment NightOur Assessment Night was a huge success!!! As we celebrate Parkside being a data driven school, please remember to utilize Phoenix to create some of your formative assessments. You can create your assessments, per standard and content. Each question has the DOK Level next to the question. (Dr. A placed a DOK Question Stem sheet in each of your boxes) Students can also take the assessments on Phoenix, and the assessments are graded!!!! This is a great resource for teachers and beneficial for students. This also correlates to TKES: Performance Standard 5-Assessment Strategies. Dr. A Reads to 4th GradeDr. Alexander, you filled my bucket by calling on me to answer a question!-Qualan Maynard Science Professional Learning Opportunities Elementary Content Ambassador Program
Another tier of support in building the capacity of our teachers exists in our content ambassador (K-5) program. The application based program aims at extending the content knowledge and instructional capacity of our teachers who have demonstrated academic growth with our learners. For teachers interested in this amazing opportunity to learn, grow, and further support our district, an application link can be accessed here: viewform. Certificate Endorsement Opportunities (K-5 Science Endorsement) In addition to our after-school and weekend professional learning offerings available to our schools, curriculum and instruction is also providing endorsement opportunities with preference given to our targeted schools. For teachers interested in applying for an endorsement program, please click the following http://www.ciclt.net/sn/resa/rep_profilenew.aspx?ClientCode=mresaep.

QUESTIONS TO ASK RIGHT AWAY These start-of-school questions can be written out on index cards—ask children to write their answers on the other side, perhaps doing one per day during the first week of school.
These settling-in questions can be addressed in similar ways as the start-of-school ones, during the second and third weeks of school.
Use these questions throughout the school year, followed by supportive discussions, to continue to get to know your students, build their reflection skills, and positively influence their resiliency.
