We know that all the hard work over the year can go out the window if a student shows up on a day of testing emotionally distressed. The mornings of GMAS can be busy, so these lesson plans intentionally require no additional resources and take less than 15 minutes. I recommend practicing these activities in the days before GMAS as well, so that students are well acquainted with the strategies and comfortable using them during the test. They are also great for K-2! If you would like any of these activities modeled for you and your students, please let Ms. Green know! Thanks!

Parkside's Milestones Testing PlanTeam Parkside, Please see the attached testing plan we covered in our training as it pertains to testing schedule, logistics, roles/responsibilities, etc. Please note, I had to make a few revisions in proctor assignments and monitoring for break schedule. As things happen/change, more revisions can possibly occur prior to testing. I will speak with those individuals involved. Please review the plan and let me know if you have any questions/concerns. Doing this electronically will allow us to keep the folders until testing/day before. Please remind your colleagues to check their email to read the attachment.

We are working on having a special Literacy Reward time for each grade level at the end of April. Details to come out soon. SEL Update from Ms. GreenGrades 1-5 should be on their last week of Second Step lessons (woohoo!). If for some reason you are behind, you can catch up in the next week or two. It’s also a great opportunity to do the extension activities and handouts if you haven’t already. Throughout the remaining six weeks of school, we will circle up every day for Community Gatherings. You can find all of the CGs for the rest of the year, along with other CG lesson plans here. I’ve also attached them to this email. Because this time of year can be stressful with the GMAS approaching, the SEL team has also put together some lesson plans to increase calm and focus. These resources have proven to be very helpful during GMAS. We know that all the hard work over the year can go out the window if a student shows up on a day of testing emotionally distressed. These lesson plans are also attached and in the folder linked to above.
SEL Book of the Month (April)The Most Magnificent Thing The SEL book of the month for April is, The Most Magnificent Thing, Award-winning author and illustrator Ashley Spires has created a charming picture book about an unnamed girl and her very best friend, who happens to be a dog. The girl has a wonderful idea. She is going to make the most MAGNIFICENT thing! She knows just how it will look. She knows just how it will work. All she has to do is make it, and she makes things all the time. IB Update for TeachersAs a continuation of March’s IB Professional Development on "W.O.W...Working on the Work: Debriefing, Updating & Finalizing Our Planners," we will now move into writing our 3rd & 4th IB Planners. This planning session will take place on Wednesday, April 16 in the copy room near the blue hall. Each session will last for approximately 60 minutes. A detailed schedule will be sent out within the next day or two. For our session, you will need the following: · Fully charged laptop · IB POI · Grade level scope & sequence · Any additional resources or materials An APS substitute will be assigned to cover each homeroom class. So, please don’t forget to leave a set of plans during this time. IB Update for Speicals TeachersSpecials TEachers In the PYP, the units of inquiry create the entire school’s Programme of Inquiry (POI). Therefore, when planning learning, all teachers collaboratively look for connections between the elements of each unit. When looking for these links, we must focus on students experiencing real and authentic connections that bridge their understanding to experience how learning crosses boundaries and disciplines. This means that students will be inquiring into the same unit through the lens of a different subject when they visit the specials teachers. This inquiry will broaden their understanding and make connections across disciplines. As a result, our specials teachers will be planning and adding their special area touches to each grade level’s planners. The information will be placed in box #9, “Teacher Notes.” So, please mark your calendars for April 23-24, 2019. Each day, the specials teachers will take ½ a day to add to the planners. Now, although the specials teachers will be away from their classrooms, specials will still continue with the assistance of substitutes. (Please see the schedule below to see how you may/may not be affected.) Thanks in advance for putting forth the effort to ensure that Parkside students gain a deeper understanding of the concepts and inquiry across all disciplines in all classrooms to include art, music, physical education and Spanish. TUESDAY, APRIL 23 Subs in specials for grades 3rd, 4th & 5th (11:30am-2:20pm) WEDNESDAY, APRIL 24 Subs in specials for grades K, 1st & 2nd (8:30am-11:30am) Panda Paw
