If your scholar(s) is/are in need of a device. Please see Mr. Carpenter, Media Specialist, beginning at 8:00 AM. MAP TestingThere are a few reminders/updates that our MAP Testing Team would like to share.
Math FrameworkFrom Ms. TaylorI delivered a few instructional materials that will be used by the grade level but housed in the grade chairs classroom. The following was delivered:
4th and 5th Writing by DesignAs we wait for access to the Writing instructional materials, I have created the six traits' posters you will need for next week's lessons. I have also delivered the copies of the lessons for each trait to you. I will work on the student source book (Writing Notebooks) sample. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to give me a call or email. K-3 FUNdationsLast week I tabbed everyone's FUNdations TE and left a checklist with what you need to complete day by day to prepare for your orientation and unit 1 lessons. If for some reason you have lost the document, I have attached it. I am also reaching out to see if you have enough FUNdations materials for your students. You should have the following: Student consumables (Student Notebooks, Journal and composition) per student Student Durables (Magnetic Board and tiles) grade specific (per student) If you need additional materials, please let me know and I will work on getting you what you need. SEL Book of the MonthParkside will continue to focus on the Learner Profile through the SEL lens via a book of the month. I’ve attached a document that connects the SEL competency themes, the learner profile attributes and approaches to learning to the book of the month. Our goal is to seamlessly align these two programs with the work that we’re doing here at Parkside and to provide our students with an opportunity to engage in learning, thinking, and responding to a shared text. Parkside has three copies of each book in The Center for Literacy & Inquiry. Please see Mr. Carpenter to retrieve a copy to share with your students. Grade Level NewsletterYour newsletters should be shared with your families every Thursday for the upcoming week. The goal is to push out the information across the grade level at about the same time. If your newsletters are IDENTICAL across the grade level, your grade chair may send it out to all of your grade level parents. It is also imperative that each of you completes the 2022 Master Email List as soon as possible. I will utilize the master list to communicate school-wide information. 2022 Master Email List: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1qNX8g6qITuMDdLqlUQnPRrwQP9K1AIV1vW6gjtpbFLg/edit?usp=sharing PANDA PRESSLast Thursday Communication to Parents 8/11District Covid-19 CDC Guidance UpdateFrom email sent Friday 8/12/22 at 3:24PM
Atlanta Public Schools is currently reviewing the newly released CDC guidance for K-12 schools. In addition, we are awaiting updated guidance from the GA Department of Public Health. When revising health protocols for our school district, we consider recommendations from CDC, GA DPH, and monitor the impact of COVID-19 on our school district. APS will continue to make mitigation decisions that ensure the health and safety of our students and staff in our schools and buildings. This will always be a top priority. For now, our mitigation protocols are as follows:

Field Day is on the Parkside Field
Schedule below
10am - start time
- Look for the tent with your last name on it.
- Encourage families to send in towels/bring blankets to set up under the tent.
- Each tent will have a few chairs already set up.
- Each tent will already have a supply of plates, napkins, cups, and a trash bag.
- We would love for each class to get settled at their tent and hang out there until we're ready to move on to field games.
10am-11am - field day type games (tug of war, sack races, egg spoon race)
- Before coming out, please, please let your students know that we're not going straight into the inflatables. I know that's going to be the toughest part.
- We'll put pre-k on one side of the field and kindergarten on the other side of the field.
- Please have a count of how many students are present when you all come out. That way we can break races up into smaller groups to participate in each race. If a student is hesitant to participate, they can cheer on their teammates!
- We will also be pulling teacher names out of a hat to pie all of the principals - Foster, Harris, and H-G.
11am-11:30am - lunch
- Volunteers will bring around the pizza to each tent.
- We're hoping that by delaying inflatables, that students will actually take a moment for a water break and lunch!
11:30am-1:45pm - free time
- Inflatables, spin art, face painting, games in the field, bubbles, music, balls, hoola hoops.
- Spin art pictures will have the students names and teacher's name on them. We'll deliver the next day.
1:45-2pm - clean up, popsicles
- We're going to call all students to pick up any trash they see around the field/class tents and return to their tents.
- Popsicles will be handed out. (Main reason we asked for hand wipes for each class.)
- Inflatables, face paint, spin art will all be closing up shop.
2pm(ish) - return to classrooms
