Harlem 1900 - 1940 - An African American Community - An exhibition portfolio from the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture. They offer an excellent timeline to accompany the exhibition. The Dred Scott Case - Arguments about slavery in the print and in public debate had a direct impact on the Scott's and the people who surrounded them. The records contained in this exhibit document the Scott's' early struggle to gain their freedom through litigation and are the only extant record of this significant case as it was heard in the St. Louis Circuit Court. African American Perspectives from the Library of Congress - The Daniel A. P. The Internet African American History Challenge is an interactive quiz that helps you sharpen your knowledge of African American History. It's an "open book" test. So if you're not sure of an answer, you can check the reference material for help. Level I is the easiest and has 7 questions while levels II & III have 10 questions each and are a bit more challenging. Mindset Training TidbitFrom Mindset De-escalation Training: When a student is in crisis you can use the following 2 strategies: You can Get in your CAR (for the adult, you)
Then the adult (you) say: 1. Say what you see and/ hear. "I hear you saying..." (name the tone/voice level the student is using). "I see you..." (name the action the student is doing). 2. Establish the feeling. "It seems to me like you are ..." (name the feeling that you see the student showing) 3. Connect the feeling to the source Ask who, what, when, where, how questions to find out what is leading the the feeling (get specific and concrete answers, DO NOT ASK WHY). 4. Plan of Action "What can we do right now to help solve the problem? What have you tried? What can you do right now to calm down? (assist person in crisis towards establishing a plan of action. Mandatory Child Protection Unit starts Tues 1/21

Lasts 6 weeks
- Please locate your CPU manual by the end of next week. Every homeroom teacher received one with their Second Step materials. If you cannot find yours, please let me know right away.
- If you are teaching a new grade level, you need to enter the CPU activation code located in your manual on your Second Step account to access all videos.
- I will send home letters about CPU two times. This is an opt out letter, meaning it should only be signed if parents do not want students to participate. If you receive a letter, please put it on my desk ASAP so I can follow up with parents. I have to individually call each parent.
